Definitions of cannabidiol
This flowering plant consists of three distinct varieties: Cannabis ruderalis, Cannabis indica, and Cannabis sativa. This plant has a variety of industrial and medical applications. For centuries, it has been used to make textiles, oils, and medicines. In addition to its recreational use, cannabis has also been heavily regulated due to its high concentration of THC, making its cultivation strictly regulated.
As the name implies, hemp refers to cannabis varieties that have been bred to contain less than .3% of THC.
Cannabinoids are a diverse group of compounds that include both naturally occurring and synthetic substances. Their effects vary significantly, with some cannabinoids recognized for their medical benefits, while others are classified as illegal drugs.
CBD is a naturally occurring cannabinoid and the second most abundant compound found in the Cannabis plant. It is legal and considered safe for consumption.
THC is the most abundant compound in the marijuana plant and a highly psychoactive cannabinoid. It is responsible for the "high" associated with cannabis use, making its production and consumption strictly regulated.
A psychoactive substance is any chemical that can cross the blood-brain barrier and directly influence the central nervous system. While many psychoactive substances have medical uses, such as anesthetics and psychiatric medications, others are used recreationally, often leading to harmful side effects and the risk of addiction.
An intoxicating substance is one that can impair your faculties and alter your behavior. While most illegal drugs have intoxicating effects, the majority of intoxication cases worldwide are linked to alcohol. Intoxication can result from substances that directly affect the brain (psychoactive) or indirectly through harm to the body (toxic effects, which is where the term originates).
