PAX Labs

PAX Labs was founded in 2007 by James Monsees and Adam Bowen, two Stanford design school graduates who wanted to create a vaporizer that was as well-designed as an Apple product. Their first device, the PAX 1, launched in 2012 and immediately set a new standard for portable vaporizers — it was sleek, discreet, and worked reliably every time.

The company separated from its tobacco division (which became JUUL Labs) in 2015 to focus exclusively on cannabis. Since then, PAX has released the PAX 2, PAX 3, and PAX Era series, each iteration improving on the last.

The PAX 3 remains one of the best-selling premium vaporizers in the world. It works with both loose-leaf flower and concentrates, connects to a smartphone app for temperature control and usage tracking, and delivers consistently smooth vapor. The PAX Era Pro, designed for oil pods, offers strain-specific temperature recommendations through the app.

PAX's design philosophy — premium materials, minimal buttons, intuitive operation — has made them the aspirational brand in the vaporizer category. Their devices cost more than competitors, but the build quality and reliability justify the premium for most users.
