Select Oil was founded in 2015 by Micah Sherman in Portland, Oregon, with a mission to create the cleanest, most consistent cannabis oil cartridges on the market. At a time when the vape market was flooded with low-quality products, Select stood out by publishing detailed lab results, refusing to use cutting agents, and building a reputation for honest potency claims.

The brand grew rapidly through the Pacific Northwest and California, becoming one of the most trusted vape brands on the West Coast. In 2019, Curaleaf acquired Select for $949 million — one of the largest cannabis acquisitions in history — giving Select the resources to expand nationally.

Select's most important differentiator is its commitment to clean oil. When the 2019 vaping illness crisis (EVALI) revealed that many brands were using Vitamin E acetate as a cutting agent, Select was one of the first brands to publicly certify that none of their products contained the compound. This transparency built enormous consumer trust during a period of widespread industry concern.

The Select Elite Live line, launched in 2020, uses live resin extraction from fresh-frozen cannabis to preserve the full terpene profile of each strain. The result is cartridges that taste and smell like the actual plant — a significant upgrade from distillate cartridges with added botanical terpenes.
