Linalool

LIN-ah-lool

The lavender terpene. Calming, anti-anxiety, anti-convulsant. Nature's most studied anxiolytic terpene.

Linalool is the primary terpene in lavender and one of the most studied terpenes for anxiety, stress, and sleep. It modulates GABA receptors — the same target as benzodiazepines — producing calming effects without sedation at typical doses.

About Linalool

Linalool is a monoterpene alcohol found in over 200 plant species, most famously lavender. It is responsible for the characteristic floral, slightly spicy aroma of lavender essential oil and is one of the most widely used fragrance compounds in the world.

Its pharmacological profile is remarkably well-studied. Linalool modulates GABA-A receptors — the primary inhibitory neurotransmitter system in the brain and the target of benzodiazepines, barbiturates, and alcohol. This mechanism explains its well-documented anxiolytic and sedating effects.

Unlike benzodiazepines, linalool does not appear to cause dependence or tolerance at typical doses. Multiple clinical studies have demonstrated its efficacy for anxiety reduction through inhalation alone — making it one of the most evidence-backed aromatherapy compounds.

Linalool also has significant anti-convulsant properties, demonstrated in multiple animal models. This has led to interest in linalool as a potential adjunct therapy for epilepsy, particularly in combination with CBD. Its anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties add to its therapeutic profile.

To maximize Linalool in your vapor, set your vaporizer to just above its boiling point:

198°C / 388°F

Lower temperatures preserve more terpenes; higher temperatures extract more cannabinoids.
